If you missed it, we captured the full recording so you can get the inside scoop on this new (and better!) approach to childcare. Don’t have time to watch the full Q+A? Here are a few answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding June Care:

Do I need to carry specific insurance to host June Care (like home daycares do)?

No. There are no additional insurance or licensing requirements to host June Care in your home. To understand your current coverage, we recommend speaking with your insurance broker, since, the majority of the time, your homeowners / renters insurance should cover any potential accidents that occur in your home. But again, you should check with your insurance provider to fully understand your individual coverage.

As a host, can I take the child in the car to pick up my kids after school?

Any driving arrangements need to be arranged between you and your matched family. We (June Care) will need to run an additional driving record check on any hosts who will need to drive during the time when they are caring for others' children.

How much is June Care?

June Care Hosts set their own rates. Our host rates are often more affordable than the hourly rate most nannies charge. We are happy to provide recommendations, as requested. Once the rate is agreed upon between the families and your June Care is scheduled, we manage the payments electronically and take a 7.5% service fee to cover our costs (for June Care hosts this fee is waived after 4 weeks for any on-going match). We also deduct a one-time fee of $15 from the first June Care payout - charged to the host - to cover the cost of the background check.

Tell me more about the matching process?

Once you create a profile, a June Care matching specialist sends you matches based on a number of factors - ages of kids, location, schedule needs/availability, parenting style, etc. After you have reviewed and approved a match, we coordinate a video call and/or a trial playdate as the first introduction. If the match is a good fit, we move forward with next steps and handle all scheduling, logistics and payments. If it isn't the right fit, we go back to “match-making” for you!

What is your current safety protocol surrounding illness and COVID precautions?

We are extremely COVID conscious at June Care and our policy regarding sickness is that if anyone in the host household becomes ill, they are to immediately notify our team so we can notify the family requesting childcare. If one of the children or hosts are experiencing COVID symptoms, we recommend cancelling the playdate. Our users are able to cancel playdates based on illness at any time without incurring any penalty. In regard to COVID vaccines, we collect information from all of our hosts regarding their vaccination status so we can match like minded families; and we respect that this is an individual decision.

Can I be a host and a customer?

Absolutely! We have many, many parents who choose to both host playdates and request childcare when they need it. We encourage you to do both if you have the ability to do so.

What is the age range of children you accept?

While there is no predetermined minimum or maximum age, the highest demand we see is for kids ages 0-5 years. That said, we receive care requests for as young as 3-4 months, on up to school aged children.

What are the “hours” you can request childcare?

You can request childcare at any time that you need it, 7 days per week. We have parents looking for childcare full-time, part-time, or occasionally on weekends and evenings for date nights or other social activities. The June Care team will try our best to find a host who can accommodate the hours you need childcare. Our model is very flexible to accommodate all types of requests and does not have rigid hours like a daycare center.

How long does it take to hear back once we submit a request whether you have a host near me or not?

Our average response time is 24 - 48 hours. In the regions where June Care is newer, it can take slightly longer to identify a host. Either way you can expect to get a response from our team to let you know the status of your request within a few days of submitting your request.

Do we provide our own food for play dates or does the host provide?

If your child is on a specific diet or has allergies, you are welcome to provide your own food for the playdate. If your child does not have dietary restrictions, typically our hosts provide all meals and snacks for the children.

How do naptimes work?

Because all June Care hosts are either parents or primary caregivers for children, they are very comfortable putting children down for nap times. Before the first playdate, we schedule a Zoom meet and greet call where parents can go over nap times and schedules and discuss sleeping arrangements in the host’s home. Often parents will drop off a pack and play or other comfort objects to ease their child into napping in a new environment.

Do play dates have to be held in my home, if I sign up to host?

While play dates are held at the host’s home the majority of the time, June Care is flexible based on the needs of the families and it is not required that playdates be held in the host’s home. During the Zoom meet and greet between the two families, this is the perfect time to discuss whether the playdate will be held in the host or requesting families’ home or at a local park, library, or other public space.

How are hosts vetted? Background checked?

Our June Care Hosts are mom reviewed and approved using a better than best-in-class screening process. Specifically, we complete the following checks on all hosts before they host June Care:

  • 1. Social Security Check

  • 2. National Criminal Search (standard)

  • 3. Sex Offender Search

  • 4. Global Watchlist Search

  • 5. Personal and Professional Reference Checks

  • 6. Online Presence Check

  • 7. Virtual Interview with our June Care Matching Specialists

All of our hosts must also identify themselves as primary caregivers for children.

Do your hosts typically charge more for infant care?

Typically, no. Our rates do not typically vary based on the age of the child.
